Blue Ridge Folklife Festival
A 43 year old tradition, the Blue Ridge Folklife Festival is for lovers of everything from mule jumpers, to musicians, to antique tractors. We will spend the day at Ferrum College, enjoying everything that makes up the roots of the Blue Ridge area. Considered the largest regional event of its kind in Virginia, the festival features performers, artisans, foods and unique activities that you won’t find at typical festivals. According to the New York Times, the festival is "thoroughly authentic"! Fee includes ticket to festival, water, van transportation and escorts. Lunch is on your own at the festival.

Horseback Riding- Scenic Family Ride
Seated adjacent to the Peaks of Otter and with endless miles of trail, join the equine experts at Reba Farm and enjoy scenic landscapes while learning to ride and work with your horse companion. Participants will learn basic horsemanship skills including mounting, riding technique, and more before setting off on a guided countryside ride. No experience necessary. Must wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. Transportation, helmets, and tack included. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Horseback Riding Wildlife Excursion
It's time to saddle up and experience the sights and sounds of the local wildlife. Create and share homemade treats with some of the critters on a fun filled and scenic horseback trail ride. Following this, enjoy a delicious and hearty cowboy style meal at Reba Farm Inn's Bed and Breakfast. You'll then remount your horse and conclude the day with a ride back to the stables. Mountain Biking 101
Leave the asphalt behind and let us get you in gear for the trails. Learn the basics of mountain biking with an International Mountain Bike Association certified instructor. They will provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to get out there on your own. Our guides also provide plenty of information on the best local trails and rides suited for your ability, which is helpful for anyone new to the sport. No experience necessary. Whether you're hiking, biking, boating, or climbing it's best to be prepared for the unknown! In this clinic participants will gain crucial skills and knowledge to better assess and address first aid matters that arise in the backcountry, wilderness setting or when emergency care is unavailable. Aerial Ropes Course: Reaching New Heights
Leave the ground behind and conquer new heights on Camp Roanoke's aerial ropes course. Participants will have the opportunity to ascend into the trees, with safety at the forefront of the experience, and navigate through an exciting series of eight different high ropes challenges before dismounting, via an exhilarating zip line, and returning to the ground. All safety equipment and instruction will be provided. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum weight for participation is 250 lbs.

Take a walk and collect natural items that catch your artistic eye, then create a unique nature weaving! When you take the time to look carefully, you will see the sculptural elegance in a simple stick or the delicacy of an insect nibbled leaf. Stones, pods, and weeds can add to the beauty of your creation. The instructor will provide cord, adhesive, small cutting tools, fresh plant parts, and other natural treasures. Invasive species can be plants, animals and other organisms, and these alien invaders are overtaking our forests, parks and backyards! In SW Virginia, terrestrial non-natives are quickly crowding out our delicate natives. Join us for an exciting day of learning about invasive species, what you can do to help and protect our local environment, and what support resources are available. Bring samples of plants in your yard for identification, and learn how to control the aliens invading your own backyard!

Rocky Mount Strawberry Festival
Join us for a night out in Rocky Mount, VA full of local artists, gospel bands and strawberries! Our first stop will be the Artisan Center Along the Crooked Road, which displays works such as pottery, glass, leather photography, jewelry, gourds and books by local authors. Our first stop will be at the local Farmer’s Market for fresh produce, flowers, local meats and more. A selection of handmade crafts will also be available, including pottery, candles, jewelry and wooden crafts, to name a few. After the market, we will head over for a generous dinner at the Home place Restaurant. The delicious choice of roast beef is specifically available on Thursdays, so eat up!
